How Do You Want to Be Remembered?

He had chosen to end his life this way and to be remembered like this: "This is it. This is where it all ends. End of the road. What a life it was. Some life." together with 32 innocent victims.

He even compared himself to Jesus Christ, who die for us this way, quite different from his way, Jesus die with a purpose.

Heart-broken? indeed, it is...

So, How do you want to be remembered then?

Never before in history have people had the opportunity to have a second adulthood. Life expectancy was fifty years, now people live an average of 24 years past that (UNICEF data, here), and we are more affluent that our previous generations.

While statistically we may live longer, we still don't know exactly when we will die. The question is, how would you want your epitaphs look like? Cho's way of ending his life reflect someone who haven't find the purpose of life and one with no passion towards life.

You and I still have a chance to select our own epitaphs. It is fairly scary to think about your gravestone while you are alive. But when you select an epitaph as an expression of gratitude, you identify yourself as someone with purpose and a passion. I am a teacher, and I'm proud to be one. and I want to be remembered as being good soil where the seed (students) that are entrusted to me multiplied a hundredfold. It is how I wish and attempt to live; it express my passions and my core commitments; and it is how I envision my legacy. I want to be a symbol of higher yield, in both life and death.

Take the opportunity from this incident to write your epitaphs.

Where is God calling you to serve? What passion has he instilled in your heart? Each of us have been given something to work with--time, money, and/or ideas. Using all of who you are in service to God and to people around you: your family, your church and your community will lead to a deeper, more fulfilling sense of accomplishment. NOT ending your life and other life like him.

So, how do you want to be remembered?

meanwhile, lets observe a moment of silence to mourn the victims.

BAKAR Buntut-nya!!

First they signed the Kyoto Protocol but refused to ratify it, although the United States was, as of 2005, the largest single emitter of carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels.

Then the same Al Gore (or the "kurang ajar idiot" as labeled by Dr M's supporters) who signed the protocol under Clinton Administration did a documentary entitled An Inconvenient Truth to warn the world about global warming. (A revenge after losing to him by 537 votes in the 2000 presidential election???)

Even his good friends British Prime Minister Tony Blair and German Chancellor Angela Merkel also urging him to agree to tough new international measures to stop global warming accelerating out of control, quote: "tackling climate change is an imperative, not a choice". But the fella still hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil...

No wonder The Economist carry this cartoon to "commemorate" the upcoming June's G8 summit in Heiligendamm, Germany, and to wake him up burning his buttock! In our language: BAKAR BUNTUT-nya!! **

As for us, in order to safe our "buntut', lets start turning off our lights and switch off all the electrical appliances for 15 minutes a day to help stop global warming! Be a God's Green Disciples!

**: Buntut=Buttock, sound alike :-)

Malaysian vs. Taiwanese = Abang-adik

The NST have a special report yesterday entitled "Are You Robbing your Kids of Their Future?" which reminded me the very hot yet old issue we're facing here in Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR: Engineering class. Yoga. Golf. Go-karting. Scuba-diving. Video animation.

These are normal activities for adults. But they are also being pursued by urban children, some as young as 4.

Many parents are sending their children for these activities during weekends and school holidays. Some want to give the young ones a chance to master new skills and others, obviously to keep up with the Joneses.

And they are willing to fork out between RM100 and RM500 a month for the privilege.

Nowadays, it is rare to see children spending time at home, watching television or catching tadpoles with the neighbourhood kids on a typical weekend.

Gone, too, are the days when the typical extra-curricular activities actually referred to piano lessons, dance recitals, art or swimming classes.

Almost on the same issue, the CommonWealth magazine in Taiwan also did a special report on Taiwan's Helicopter Parent which sounded like this :

Taiwan's six million “helicopter parents” are hovering, their noses in everything involving their kids. And while their influence is expanding, their impact may not be for the better.

And Heart2Heart says there are no difference between Malaysian and Taiwanese parents, they are ABANG-ADIK LAH: Killing their Kids slowly...

the experts said:

in NST:
  1. "With heavy competition among parents and children today, parents are fast-tracking their children into entering a competitive environment, thus risking their kids losing their childhood in the process,"
  2. By burdening their children with such activities, children might become stressed out and turn into "zombies".
  3. Marriage and family therapist Datuk Dr Mat Saat Baki said many parents thought they were giving their kids a head start in life by enrolling them in all kinds of unconventional activities. "However, it could be dangerous because the child may not get to experience childhood. Their lives are so programmed and, worst of all, they have no choice but to follow their parents’ wishes," he said. He attributed the trend to parents living off their unfulfilled dreams on their children and the trend of upmanship or kiasuism.

AaaaaaaaaaaaaH! this KIASUNISM thing, never ending lah!!

Look at how "kiasu" they are in Taiwan:

In the past, educational excursions abroad began in high school. Today, many cram schools and private schools are organizing all kinds of such overseas study tours during summer and winter vacations. One well known private school has even organized science tours to NASA. Consultants have also sprung up who perform aptitude analysis of babies' fingerprints to determine whether they are artists, leaders, etc.

NASA Tour! Don't play-play, a visit to NASA!!!

I don't know leh! Me and my wife are considering sending Lucas for "tuition" in order to improve his study :-( But this report here said 與其費盡心力緊盯孩子的功課、拚命補習,還不如激發小朋友的學習熱情。So, How ah??

But whatever it is, one thing we always remember in raising our kids is like what the Proverbs 22: 6 says 'Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Also we will guide them to guard their heart because it's the well spring of life! (Proverb 4:23)

What do you think of sending the kids to tuition?
(I can hear my wife whispering at my ear: Don't become helicopter parent leh! Aiyoyooo! Abang-adik!)

The Uncle called me "UNCLE"!!!

This morning when I was approaching a stall to order my breakfast, the owner of the stall asked me: UNCLE, WANT TO ORDER FOODS?

I was stunned for a while as the owner of the shop is OLDER than me. I was thinking " macam mana u boleh panggil I UNCLE!" "Am I look that old?" or is it because of my hair? Not only one time but 3 time he said: "UNCLE, this nasi lemak very nice, meehoon also no bad, UNCLE....kopi or milo? My milo never increase price one, UNCLE!"

WAH! Habis-lah! I tot only kids of my son age would call me uncle, now even "Uncle" called me "UNCLE!"

Jesus My Lord, My Life

Jesus My Lord, My Life - Lyrics

You take my hand, lead me to your side
Your warm embrace, sets my heart on fire
You are my shelter, God of all wonders
You are the Hero of my life

I live for You, Saviour of my life
Your love for me is wider than the sky
You are my shelter, God of all wonders
You are the Hero of my life

(Chorus)
You came for me, Your life for mine
When I couldn't save myself
You bore my pain, my sins my shame
Jesus My Lord My Life.

Today is Palm Sunday (or passion Sunday), the beginning of the Holy Week for Christians around the world. Church celebrates Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem to accomplish his paschal mystery, when according to the Gospels Jesus rode into Jerusalem humbly on a donkey reminisce of a Davidic victory procession and people placed palms on the ground in front of him.

This is followed by Maundy Thursday, the day commemorates the Last Supper of Christ and his 12 Apostles and the institution of the Eucharist. And on Good Friday, the Church mourns for Christ’s death, reverences the Cross, and marvels at His life for his obedience till death.

On the next day (Holy Saturday), a day of silence and prayer which commemorates the dead Christ in the tomb.

The next morning will be Easter Sunday where churches around the world celebrates "The Feast of the Resurrection."

Did you notice that in the last part of the video the tomb was empty? Yes! It is empty cause Jesus rose from the death for you and for me!

p/s Heart2Heart will be quite for the holy week till the Easter, we will be back after that.
