Featured in July issue, vol 31!

Remember not long ago I was invited to comment on "The impact of food crisis to Malaysia's economy" by this magazine?

This afternoon I open up my pigeon hole in the office, I found this big envelope

It's a complementary copy

from the publisher for my comments on their Cover Story
FOOD CRISIS

The story are from page 10 to 24

I gave my views on various issues such as food crisis and what causes it; genetic-modify seeds/foods; economic development in this country (particularly on land & agriculture industry), inflation & subsidy as well as the management of Malaysia economy amidst the challenging time.

Just my little small thoughts and reflections on the current issue and challenge, paiseh-lah... (as I was the youngest and "smallest fella" among the three that were interviewd by the magazine)
Thanks to the reporter/writer who put all the small pieces of my thoughts into a good write-up.

For full story, you can grab a copy of this magazine at RM12 at the news stand/bookstores

Good Food in Setapak/Gombak/Melawati (Pt 2)

Let's continue from the Home-hand-made noodle stall to another good food in Setapak Jaya.
Going back to the Pasar direction, ist junction turn left (about 20 steps from the noodle stall) go into the Pork selling stalls, you will see this Uncle at the 1st stall selling Siew Ba (Roasted Pork) and Cha-Siew Ba.

Very popular among the locals because the meat are soft and juicy and it's not over-roasted. But very long q, and selling like hot-cake!! You have to go before 11am before it's sold out!

We always asked him to chop RM3 or RM5 to eat it with the noodle, a lot of locals do that and I
did it this morning

The Wan-tan Noodle from the Noodle stall, good! very Q!

Today, I found something new in this Pasar, see the picture to guess

Bread-wrapped-Curry-Chicken!!

for good food, Pasar Setapak Jaya never fail you

Good Food in Setapak/Gombak/Melawati (Pt 1)

Sometimes my students asked me: Sir, being so long in this area, what are the good and cheap food that you'll recommend? My replied: good food ada, but not necessarily cheap...say-lah affordable! haha!

So, I decided to start blogging about food in my neighborhood, you may not agree with my choices as "different flower goes into different eyes" if you do know about good food in these areas, do tell me huh, we'll go together, k?

We'll start with Setapak Jaya, it is opposite Sri Rampai. If you go in via the traffic light between the lake and the mosque, you'll come to a cross road and turn right into the Pasar Setapak Jaya area.

Go along the road and when come to the end, last Chinese Stall at the left, you will find the stall before the mamak stall.

The favorites among the patrons are Lo-Mee in soup and Dried Small noodle (all noodle are hand-home-made.)

Lo-Mee

Kong-Lou Small Noodle

The Teh-C also no bad @ RM1.10

There are many other options as well, see photo below:

So, next time you visit this place for sayur-sayuran, try-lah this stall, good! Don't forget to bring my kids along, k?

Cendol Leman Dawi

A few weeks ago, we went back
to Sungai Rambai via the Senawang-Rembau-Alor Gajah old trunk road. We exited the PLUS Highway at Senawang. And at KM 11 along Senawang-Rembau stretch we spotted this stall "Cendol Leman Dawi that was crowded with people and cars. So out of curiosity and desire for "Ais", we drove in and to our surprise, we found the Cendol's Heaven!!

Why leh? First of all, it cost only RM1.50 for a bowl of cendol, RM2 if you add Kacang Merah or Pulut or Jagung into it. And we found that most people order 2bowls for 3
persons, 4 bowl for 6 persons and 1 bowl for 2 persons etc, i.e. always 1 bowl short of the actual number of people. We followed-suit, order 3 bowl for 5 of us (Me, Darling, Lucas, Matt & Joyce).

The secret it, YOU CAN TOP-UP YOUR CENDOL AFTER YOU FINISH the 1st bowl. ALL THE INGREDIENTS ARE PLACED ON THE TABLE!

The cendol, the ais, the conconut milk (santan) and the gula melaka!! So, the boys finished the 1st bowl, made their second bowls and really enjoy the cendol!! I mean "ais" And the best thing was: NO EXTRA CHARGE!!

See the "MENIFESTO LEMAN DAWI" then you will understand me!

Gula naik, Gula tambah percuma!
Tepung/beras naik harga, Cendol tambah percuma!
Kelapa naik harga, Santan tambah percuma!
Ais naik harga, Ais tambah percuma!

Minum sampai puas! 1 Kali Bayar Sahaja!

and the best line is:
Petrol Naik harga, CENDOL TAK CAMPUR PETROL!!

"Leman Dewi sanggup berkorban apa sahaja asal rakyat bahagia!" bukan manifesto politik (maaf) kakakakakaka!!

Our total bill: RM5.50 for 3 bowls and we had a total of 6 bowls!! Puas-puas minum cendol yeh! Minum sampai I pun segan dah!!

BTW, they also serve Air Barli...............and NO NEED TO PAY!

I wonder whether they can last long...........

Anyway, Jom! Minum Cendol!!!
